Setting means to attach something to the surface and embedding means toput something in the middle. Setting is a glossary usually used for craft production, also known as screen engraving, which is also a processing method.
Just as there are a wide range of diamond class and color, designers nowadays can offer many different diamond shapes and settings. The following is a short glossary for the most important terms.

  1. Prong setting uses a long metal claw (column) to firmly buckle diamonds, and its biggest advantage is that the metal rarely blocks the diamond, better exhibiting the beauty of the diamond with light coming in at different angles of incidence and reflection.
  2. Bezel setting: the diamond is completely encircled by diamond-shaped frame.
  3. Channel setting: commonly used to set a row of small sized diamonds. It clamps the diamond using two metalbars from both sides. Round diamonds, narrow rectangular and square diamonds use channel setting. The channel is like a rail, with the diamond between.
  4. Force setting uses metal tension to fixthe diamond waist (sometimes the waist and bottom), which is very fashionable style.
  5. Pav setting is used for small diamonds. The diamonds are closely set so the metal is not visible. The surface appears to be entirely paved with diamonds.
  6. Solitare refers to a single embedded gem.
  7. Tiffany setting refers to clamping the gem with four or six long claws. This setting now widely used highlights the beauty of diamonds, easy to observe the diamond cutters, color and clarity, invented by the esteemed New York jeweler Tiffany.
